The Journey of Learning Japanese at ノートルダムだいがく。

みなさん、こんにちは!

Overall, I had a wonderful time learning Japanese this semester. I had been wanting to take Japanese before coming to Notre Dame. As a first-year, I got the wonderful opportunity to learn the beautiful language. My favorite part about the class was being able to practice our speaking to others. It was a wonderful way of learning because I know I am not the only one learning such a hard language. Additionally, I really loved going to さくらまつりand seeing all the wonderful performances.

Next semester, I will continue onto Elementary Japanese II. I hope to learn more sentence structures and learn more Kanji. Most of the Japanese words I read online are all in Kanji. I hope to get a lot out of Japanese next year. This semester was really fun and I'm really glad to have met many wonderful people in class and having かわむらせんせ teaching us along the way!

さくらまつり!

さくらまつりのイベントはとてもかっこよかったです。わたしはパフォーマンスをみました。パフォーマンスがだいすきです。パフォーマンスのあとで、みんなでしゃしんをとりました。そのあと、へやでおかしをたべませんでした。Overall I really enjoyed sakura matsuri a lot. All the performances were unique and extremely enjoyable. It was great seeing our class go up and demonstrate what our wonderful performers had been working on. This was a great experience that I won't forget!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 12!!!

こんにちは!Today for my blog post I wanted to share the last and recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen that came out today. As I've probably mentioned in my previous blogs, this is my favorite anime. The latest episode for Season 3 Episode 12 came out today and it is one of the most electric episodes of jujutsu kaisen this season. I recommend watching it, the animations are really good and you can feel the tension throughout the whole episode. There was nonstop action, and it felt as if I were on the edge of my seat. I definitely recommend watching this episode.

Katakana Expressions!

Foreign loanwords in English are often written in Katakana. I've noticed this throughout the semester so far. Specifically words like テレビ、コーヒー、コンピューター、are all written in Katakana. I believe they are written in katakana because these words are borrowed from the English language. I believe it shows a sign of respect and acknowledge that those words are borrowed. Furthermore, foreign countries are also written in Katakana. It definitely represents the respectful culture in Japan, in which it recognizes the differences in culture and identity.

Onomatopoeia phrases are also written in Katakana. I've also noticed it whenever I'm watching anime. ドキドキ = heartbeat (nervous/excited) バーン = bang, are written in Katakana. I think the main reason behind this is because Katakana gives it a little more emphasis than hiragana. The stroke order of Katakana are a lot sharper than hiragana and it gives more emotional tension. It makes it so that we hear the emotions and the sounds a lot more clearer.
