Why I chose to study Japanese?

こんにちは！My name is Alexi Zavala and I am a first-student class of 2029 Freshman. I am originally from Silver Spring, Maryland but I reside in St. Edward's Hall studying Finance. The reason as to why I chose to study Japanese was because I grew up watching Shounen Anime and I felt like I really wanted to understand more about what they were saying. I would always watch it in sub because I felt like the emotions and the tone of the characters were more emotional than they were in English. The only other language that I speak besides English is Spanish and the only other language that I would hear on a weekly basis is Japanese because of anime. Another reason is that in the future I hope to visit Japan because I have seen how beautiful it is especially during the cherry blossom season. I hope that this semester provides me the basis of Japanese and that in the future I continue to better understand the language, culture, and traditions of Japan.
